If you browse through books that tell about the history of Cusco, Peru, you will learn that there are plenty of legends that speak about its origin. One of the famous narratives say that a couple named Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, who also happen to be the children of the sun god Inti, came out from Lake Titicaca. Their sudden emergence was with a mission to find a new realm that would better the lifestyle of the inhabitants in the town.  

They had to travel by foot until they spotted a cave in Pacarec Tampu. It was said to be the site where Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo rested for a night in the course of their exhausting journey. When morning arrived, both continued to walk up north and reached the hills of Huanacaure. The very location where the scepter they were bringing was believed to have strangely vanished into the ground. Right after the incident, they discovered the town of Cusco, Peru.

Upon sighting Cusco, Peru, much progress evolved within the community. One of which was the development of farming as well as with archaeological technology. Since the successive advancements did not fail to amaze the people, they easily submitted themselves to the Ancient Incas. Not for long, an empire arose with fourteen descendants of aristocratic lineage. Their authority spread throughout the neighboring regions such as Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Colombia.

Upon the period where the power of the Ancient Incas was dominating, Cusco, Peru was regarded as the capital. There was such splendor and magnificence which can still be witnessed at this juncture. However, even just with the ruins of huge structures made of stone, you can already distinguish that once in the past, it has experienced great luxury.

When the Spaniards landed in Cusco, Peru on 1533, the Ancient Incas saw them as liberators, the very reason why the indigenous locals did not think twice of yielding. On the part of the European mestizos, they knew that they were in for a big catch. As a matter of fact, their conquer was marked with ease. When the Hispanic foreigners had set their hold, they began to construct their own foundations. They did not just build churches but also an art institution between the seventeenth or eighteenth century. The period was actually the dawn of the traditional culture fused with the customs brought along by the conquistadors.

Today, Cusco, Peru is one of the most frequently visited destinations in the whole of the country. Not only is it brimming with rich chronicles of old, there are also breathtaking landscapes that have constantly captured tourists from all over.
